E3 2011: Console Press Conference Predictions

E3 2011 should be a great show this year and I can’t wait for the festivities to begin on Monday. Until then there have been a lot of announcements about games that are going to be showcased but what about the three main consoles? What can we expect from them?

Xbox 360- Microsoft is definitely going to be showcasing the Kinect front and center. The Kinect holds the Guinness record for fastest selling consumer electronics device and Microsoft is banking on that success by, reportedly, tripling the Kinect titles available by this coming Christmas. Expect to see a lot of Kinect games and a lot of talk about new functionality. There has been a lot of speculation about the next Xbox console being revealed at E3 this year but as of right now there isn’t much reason to believe the rumors. We will have to wait and see, but with Nintendo’s announcement of Project Café, the pressure is on Microsoft and Sony.

Playstation 3- Sony has finally resolved their problems with the Playstation Network and they will probably be talking quite a bit about the new security features and all the free stuff PSN users will be getting in the near future. I would also expect to see quite a bit of news about games on the PSP and possibly a new model of the handheld device. The big question is whether Sony will reveal plans for a Playstation 4 or not, the rumor mill is saying that Microsoft will reveal a new console so who knows? It is definitely something to watch for.

Nintendo Wii- We all know that Project Café has been confirmed as Nintendo’s next console, now at E3 we will undoubtedly get some new specs and possibly info on some games that are in early production for the console. I can’t wait to see how Nintendo plans to market to the hardcore audience that they have been losing for the last few years with the Wii. Project Café (or whatever they end up calling it) is supposed to be more powerful than the Playstation 3 so we will have to wait and see. Other than that expect news on Nintendo’s big franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and others, they seem to always have a strong showing at the Nintendo press conference.

That’s what I am looking for; there should be some great surprises this year. What do you guys think is coming our way?
