E3 2011 Microsoft Press Conference: Wrap Up

The first press conference of E3 has officially ended and it had some cool stuff. Microsoft kicked off the conference with great demos of Modern Warfare 3, Tomb Raider, and Mass Effect 3. All of the above looked fantastic and got me super pumped for the games. Mass Effect 3 has been confirmed to have Kinect functionality and it was revealed that there would be voice recognition for dialogue and squad commands.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier also featured Kinect functionality that definitely shows Microsoft attempting to bring the Kinect to the hardcore audience. The Kinect was showcased extensively throughout the show and many other games were shown off with Kinect features including Sesame Street and an interactive Disneyland game.

The Kinect functionality was no surprise and some of it looked really cool, obviously much of it was meant for children but the new scanning and voice commands for Bing and the Youtube integration were nice touches.

The Gears of War 3 trailer was impressive and got me excited for the massive scale of the new game. The return of the sea monster and the graphics were all very impressive features.

The two Halo announcements were not surprises but they were exciting, the remake of Combat Evolved and the announcement of the new Halo trilogy starting with Halo 4 were all great and I can’t wait to see more from those two games, hopefully the return of Hang em High for multiplayer.

Microsoft did well but not too many surprises; the big Halo 4 announcement was leaked before the show so we all knew it was coming. They still had a pretty good showing that featured the Kinect with more hardcore games like Ghost Recon and Mass Effect 3. We will have to see how it all plays out.
