Preview: Arkham City

The Batman game Arkham Asylum was a major hit for developer Rocksteady and DC in 2009, the game featured fantastic voice acting, great action, a good story, and some really fantastic graphics. Arkham City is the sequel to the 2009 hit and it looks to be a bigger and better version of Arkham Asylum.

In Arkham City, players will once again jump into the cowl of one of the most famous superheroes of all time. The game’s story continues from the first game except now Arkham Island has been shut down due to the events of the first game. The prisoners have all been transferred to a section of Gotham city that has been set apart from the rest of the city to act as a large holding cell for the prisoners. The rule of law in this section of Gotham is non-existent and Batman has taken it upon himself to keep an eye on the dangerous criminals housed there.

Arkham City is much larger than Arkham Island and the game features even more characters from Batman’s rogue’s gallery. Two-Face, Catwoman, and the Penguin will be among the roster for the new game, along with the Joker and Harley Quinn, of course. The graphics for the game look amazing and the “detective mode” is back and even more essential to the game itself.

Recent news on the game has confirmed that 10% of the game will actually be missions where you control Catwoman and not Batman. This should lead to some interesting story dynamics as Catwoman is not the hero that Batman is. There have also been rumors of Robin possibly making an appearance in the game and if those rumors are true I’m sure we’ll hear something at E3.

The game is shaping up nicely and I can’t wait to see the finished product. The new screens and trailers that have been released recently have shown off some impressive graphics and the CG cut scenes are always great fun to watch. The game is scheduled to be released on October 18th and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about it in the coming weeks and months.
